student impressions

I felt I grew a lot as a dancer from taking this class. I learned how to connect with my body in a way that I haven’t in the past. She was extremely nice and upbeat and allowed the class to feel totally comfortable around her. I liked that we did a lot of dancing but also got to watch several performances. Seeing the performances helped me better understand modern.

I have been realizing how much I learned about creative process dancing in your piece last semester (among many other things as well), it was an invaluable experience that I am continuing to learn from.

Ashley was great in helping me with my resume and CV. She patiently worked with me on many occasions and has taught me how to effectively market myself for employment and career progression. I truly believe that because of Ashley's guidance, I will stand out among others when marketing myself to possible employers.

Ashley was amazing! She demonstrated and gave great analogies and examples when needed. She gave us a relaxing environment while still stimulating energy within. This quarter I learned to use the ground, weight, and flow. I became much less about accent and more about where my body will move naturally and without force.

She definitely wanted everyone to succeed and reinforced our achievements. She made me want to get up and come to class.

[Ashley is] really energetic and explains material clearly. She is very much a people person. She always makes me feel welcomed. She also keeps me intrigued in what we are doing. I felt that she really had an interest in making sure we understood the material from lecture.

Ashley was easy to pay attention to because I felt like she talked to us on a personal level, [rather] than over us. Her personality made it fun to contribute to class and made it easier to comprehend. She is really good at working with students and giving feedback. I can honestly see that she enjoys teaching and is trying to help us succeed.

Ashley brings a dynamic, committed, and energetic approach to teaching. She cares deeply about promoting social justice, and about mentoring her students.

As a former middle school educator, I know fully well that effective teaching is truly both a science and an art. Ashley's instruction is grounded in academic knowledge but brought to life through her ability to connect with her audience in a creative, authentic, and differentiated fashion.
