issues facing college women | uva curry school of education/ studies of women and gender

Course Description: This course is an opportunity to learn both theoretically and practically about the issues affecting college women's development. As we delve into the physical, psychological, and cultural issues that affect this population, we will also use the Young Women Leaders Program (YWLP) as a practicum where students can test their theoretical knowledge and their hands-on facilitation skills. Special attention will be given to the ways that racial and ethnic differences affect women's voice and self-concept. This course was developed by Dr. Edith "Winx" Lawrence, a clinical psychologist, and Dr. Kimberley Roberts, a feminist scholar.

In 2004 I co-taught the course with Dr. Lawrence, retooling the content, teaching half of the courses, grading, and supervising the graduate assistants. In 2003 I worked as a teaching assistant for this course wherein I graded, taught one class, and supervised the service-learning portion of the course.
