Alexandra Vetrano (BFA '12) Alex has been dancing for as long as she can remember. Growing up in Connecticut, she has studied dance at Monroe Dance Academy for the past 13 years in the disciplines of ballet, modern, jazz, lyrical, tap, musical theatre, and hip-hop. She began her dance training with Judy Abbatiello and Dana Rodriguez and for the last 6 years has studied modern and ballet with Alli Ruszkowski and Kendra Portier (OSU alumni). Alex was a member of her studio’s performing company for 9 years and the captain of the senior company for 2 of those years. With the company she has had the opportunity to dance in such venues as the Rich Forum and the Palace Theater in Stamford, CT and SUNY Purchase in a benefit for Dancers Responding to AIDS. Most recently she performed Alli Ruszkowski’s “Videotape,” in New York City’s Times Square for DRA. Monroe Dance Academy was one of two student companies to perform in Times Square along with professional companies, including David Dorfman, Keigwin + Company, and Buglisi Dance Theatre. Alex attended Bates Young Dancers Workshop in Lewiston, Maine in the summers of 2004 and 2007, where she studied with Colleen Thomas, Martha Tornay, Karl Rogers, Jennifer Archibald, Shonach Mirk-Robles, and Merciditas Alexander. Alex also danced in all of her high school musical productions, including Show Boat (Dancer), How to Succeed (Dance captain), Into the Woods (Snow White/Choreographer) and Hello Dolly (Ermengarde, Dance captain). Alex, a first year student, is excited to begin her dance career at The Ohio State University. At OSU she is studying with Susan Hadley, Valarie Williams, Michael Kelly Bruce, Michael Wall, Melanye White Dixon, Meghan Durham-Wall, Melanie Bales, Abigail Yager, and Shawn Hove. Alex performed in third-year Graduate student, Annie Kloppenberg's MFA project. "Indelible Marks". She received money from the Quarterly Funding Initiative to travel to New York City (Movement Research) and Boston to perform the piece over spring break. She is excited and grateful for this opportunity. She also performed Leigh Lotocki’s (third-year undergrad) choreography in the winter concert in March. Alex will graduate from OSU in four years with a BFA in dance. |
