Rachel Switlick is currently a first year student of The Ohio State University, pursuing her BFA in dance and BA in English. She studied dance at VanDyke and Company Studios. There she received a ballet-based training in the Cecchetti and Vaganova techniques as well as modern and jazz dance training. Rachel was a member of the Mahoning Valley Ballet Company for five years, with which she performed in several classical and contemporary ballets. She has trained with Tommy Parlon, Sarah Parker, Jessica Gallew, Kevin Maloney, and Joan E. VanDyke. In 2008, Rachel attended the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts on a full scholarship where she was selected as a student choreographer. She also attended The American Orff-Schulwerk Association National Conference in Omaha, Nebraska where she performed in “Nightmare! Historical Dance Pieces by Gunild Keetman” (staged by Joan E. VanDyke). She was the sole recipient of the James Merrit VanDyke Scholarship for 2009. She has attended master classes from Greer Reed, Jorge Laico, Tauna Hunter, Michelle Van Doeren, Manfred Fishbeck, Thomas Patrick of Paul Taylor II Dance Company, and members of Attack Theater, Peter Kope and Jeff Davis.
