Theresa Elwell is currently attending The Ohio State University where she will obtain a B.F.A degree in Dance. She began her training as an Irish Dancer at the age of 10 and obtained the highest level of competition, competing both nationally and internationally. Theresa expanded her dance abilities by attending the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts in Bethlehem, PA where she studied modern, ballet, jazz, and tap. There, she trained with Kimberly Maniscalco, Amy Lawrence, Jennifer Weaver, and Tina Bracciale. In graduating from LVPA, Theresa was the valedictorian and recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Dance Award. While continuing her participation with the O’Grady Quinlan Academy of Irish Dance through community outreach performances and activities at LVPA, Theresa also studied and performed with Muhlenberg College Dance Center in Allentown, PA. At the National High School Dance Festival in 2007, Theresa was awarded summer dance scholarships to Point Park University as well as to Goucher University. She was also accepted among 1500 applicants as 1 of 10 modern dancers into the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA and attended in the summer of 2007, training under Kevin Maloney, Michelle Van Doeren, and Joan E. Van Dyke. There, she was chosen as 1 of 6 among 30 dancers to choreograph a piece among her peers for the final dance concert, which incorporated all of the artistic departments. At OSU, Theresa is studying with Susan Hadley, Valarie Williams, and Maria Glimcher. In February, Theresa will be performing choreography by Susan Hadley in Drums Downtown and in March she will be performing various student-choreographed pieces in the Winter Concert. |
