Emily Claman is a student at The Ohio State University. Emily started dancing in Montclair, New Jersey at DanceWorks Studios as well as at the Gifted and Talented magnet school system in her town. Through the school’s program Emily received two Best Dancer awards. Upon reaching high school Emily was accepted into her high school’s School of the Visual and Performing Arts Dance Company. With the Montclair High Dance Company, Emily worked with/performed the work of various resident/visiting artists. Also, she was asked to co-choreograph the company’s hip-hop finale during her final two years there. During her four years in this program, Emily had the opportunity to perform at The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). At the same time, Emily was studying at DanceWorks Studios. While focusing mainly in modern, she also studied ballet, hip-hop, jazz, tap, improvisation and choreography. After studying there for 9 years, Emily was accepted into the company there and remained in it for five years. With DanceWorks & Co. Emily traveled across New Jersey performing at fundraisers, festivals, fairs, community outreach facilities and rehabilitation centers. Along with these opportunities, while in the company Emily also performed at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and in New York City at both Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Emily is currently a dance major at The Ohio State University and is anticipating receiving her BFA in 2013.
